The purpose of the SBCDC is to research, develop and implement projects that enhance our commercial corridor and increase the economic vitality for the surrounding neighborhoods. We take great pride in the activities we do. Our goal is to engage our community to find solutions to help improve the quality of life. Our Projects and Programs are chosen with the following objectives in mind:
Increase Tax Base: The additional revenue by economic development supports, maintains, and improves infrastructure, such as roads, parks, libraries, and emergency medical services. By increasing the number of businesses in our area we will then increase our BIA funds (tax on business licenses) in which the Stockton Blvd Partnership receives.
Job Development: Economic development provides better wages, benefits, and opportunities for advancement.
Business Retention: When businesses are supported and appreciated by the community they are more likely to stay in the neighborhood and contribute to the economy.
Economic Diversification: A diversified economic base helps expand the local economy and reduces a community’s vulnerability to a single business sector.
Self Sufficiency: A stronger economic base means public services are less dependent on intergovernmental influences and alliances.
Productive Use of Property: Property used for its “highest and best use” maximizes the value of the property.
Quality of Life: More local tax dollars and job s raise the economic tide for the entire community, including the overall standard of living of the residents.
Current Project/Programs Include: The Block by Block Program and the Stockton Blvd Mural Project. We have several other activities that are currently in the research phase.
